Verrucas

At KL Footcare, we offer a range of treatments for verrucae. It is important to note, while various treatment options are available to enhance the immune response, there is no guaranteed cure. We also highly recommend consulting with our Podiatrist at KL Footcare. We will discuss your specific needs and work together to provide you with the highest standard of care, developing the best approach for managing your verruca

What we offer

We offer a range of effective treatments for verrucae.

  1. “Tincture of Time”: Sometimes, patience is key. This approach involves monitoring the verrucae over time, allowing your body's natural healing processes to take effect. We provide guidance and support throughout this period.

  2. Occlusal Taping Treatment: This non-invasive method involves applying tape to the verruca, which deprives it of air. The combination of pressure and occlusion helps soften the verruca tissue and may eventually lead to its breakdown. For optimal results, consistent application over several weeks is necessary, making it suitable for patients committed to regular self-care.

  3. Salicylic Acid Treatment: This treatment utilizes a keratolytic process, where salicylic acid is applied directly to the verruca to gradually peel away the infected skin. This fosters natural healing and stimulates the immune system to combat the virus. Less invasive than many other methods, it typically requires multiple applications, making it ideal for mild to moderate verrucae. For severe cases, a stronger concentration can be used by a podiatrist for enhanced effectiveness. Most patients find the treatment painless, with only minor irritation reported at the application site.

  4. Verrutop: Verrutop is a topical medication crafted for the targeted treatment of verrucas. Verrutop is a medication formulated with Nitrizinc Complex, a solution containing nitric acid, organic acids, zinc and copper salts. When applied a reaction takes place, it causes mummification of the tissues; dehydrates it. It changes the protein in the verruca, and desiccates the wart tissue, which then falls off the skin, with the aim to leaving intact skin underneath.

  5. Verruca Needling: Developed by podiatrist Gordon Falknor in 1969, this specialized technique is an effective treatment for verrucae. It involves using a needle to puncture the infected skin multiple times, exposing the virus to the immune-rich subcutaneous fat layer. This can initiate a systemic immune response to help regress the verruca. Typically requiring only one or two sessions, this procedure is quick and painless, performed under local anesthesia. Most patients report minimal to no discomfort afterward. It is generally performed when other treatments haven’t worked and in 75% of patients only one treatment is necessary.
